Martin Heinrich is a senator from New Mexico. He was born in Fallon, Churchill County, Nevada on October 17, 1971. Senator Heinrich earned a Bachelors of Science from University of Missouri in 1995, and attended the University of New Mexico from 2001-2002. He was an engineer and a business owner. He was a member of the Albuquerque, New Mexico city council from 2003-2007 and then president of the city council from 2005-2006. Senator Heinrich was a trustee of New Mexico state natural resources in 2006.

He was elected to the House of Representatives as a Democrat to the One Hundred Eleventh and to the succeeding Congress (January 3, 2009-present); he was not a candidate for reelection to the House of Representatives but was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in 2012 for the term ending January 3, 2019.
